About me
I am Dr. Larue Fitch, proudly serving as Principal at Charles Evans Hughes Elementary School since December 2, 2024. Leading alongside Assistant Principal Hadiya Turner, I bring 17 years of experience in education—starting as a teacher of grades 4–8 in science, literacy, and math, transitioning to Science Lead Teacher, and then advancing into school and district leadership roles within Chicago Public Schools.Under my leadership, Hughes is undergoing a powerful transformation—shifting from a community-serving school to a student-centered, future-focused institution committed to equity, diversity, inclusion, and academic excellence. Our mission centers on delivering rigorous, culturally relevant instruction while empowering students to become confident, lifelong learners and leaders.🎯 What Should People Talk to Me About?Transformational School Leadership: The intentional work being done to evolve Hughes through data-informed instruction, school culture, and strategic partnerships.STEM & Dual Language Implementation: Our new academic focus designed to prepare students for global opportunities by fostering both language proficiency and innovation.Chronic Absenteeism Reduction: How we’ve worked closely with families to reduce chronic absenteeism through our “On-Track” initiative and strengthened community engagement.Equity and Culturally Responsive Teaching: How we prioritize student identity, belonging, and representation in the learning environment.Community Partnership: Our collaboration with local leaders, officials, and stakeholders to ensure Hughes reflects the strength and promise of the North Lawndale (K-Town) community.🏫 School Culture & WelcomeAt Hughes, we are building a school culture grounded in core values—equity and inclusion, culturally relevant pedagogy, academic excellence, identity and empowerment, collaboration, and lifelong growth.
