This session will support school leaders in maximizing the impact of their English Learner Program Teacher (ELPT) by strengthening the ELPT’s role as an instructional leader within distributed leadership structures. Participants will explore how ELPT responsibilities and leadership systems may look different across varying school contexts, including schools with large multilingual learner populations and schools with smaller or part-time programs. Through CPS examples, participants will reflect on leadership moves, coaching structures, and systems that support stronger language-rich Tier 1 instruction, instructional coherence, and multilingual learner outcomes. The session will also highlight how school leaders can leverage the professional learning ELPTs receive through OMME to strengthen school-based coaching cycles, teacher capacity, and accountability for instructional implementation.
I am the ELPT/ bilingual coordinator at a CPS school. I am passionate about providing EL students with the necessary tools for academic, social, emotional, and interpersonal success. Equity is key.
